Calling all Ladies! The Poor Girls Open is an all-female billfish release tournament designed to combine the love of fishing with fundraising for breast cancer research.
The tournament was originally founded by Captain Steve Harman as a way for local waitresses and bartenders to participate in. It was simply a way to have fun, light-hearted competition all while raising money for a cause. Continuing to grow, the Poor Girls Open have over 100 boats entering each year, and in just the past three years has raised over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Proceeds for silent auctions, 50/50 tickets, clothing, and other events for tournament audience members are also contributed to breast cancer research.
